Obama Strongly Condemns Recent Violence against Police

According to the White House Obama made a call to Kathleen Goforth en route to Alaska from Air Force One on Monday and expressed solidarity and grief at her loss and offered condolences. The killing of her husband has attracted attention from the national media and public and authorities believe it to be the fallout over the killing of unarmed black men by policemen in the violence that occurred in the United States in the recent past and civil unrest by protestors. The victim of the backlash against the police violence was Deputy Sherriff of Harris County Darren Goforth who was gunned down at a gas station in the area of Houston with no less than fifteen shots being fired at him according to reports. Shannon J. Miles was arraigned on Monday on charges of murder that may result in a death penalty.

Obama appealed to the public to stand by police officers who put their lives on the line in order to protect people residing in the United States. The official statement reads “I also promised that I would continue to highlight the uncommon bravery that police officers show in our communities every single day. They put their lives on the line for our safety,” Obama said in the statement. “Targeting police officers is completely unacceptable — an affront to civilized society.”
